Drunk Izidor – An Easter dessert that is definitely worth trying.

by Ján Vasil

Drunk Izidor is one of the most traditional desserts in our country. It is a combination of a walnut crust, walnut filling, and a soft chocolate cream topped with chocolate icing.

What's even more interesting about it is that it's a dessert mainly for adults and we definitely don't recommend it for children or drivers. A large amount of alcohol is added to the nut mass. And since this mass is unbaked, the alcohol doesn't evaporate from it.

Last but not least, Drunk Izidor is also quite demanding to prepare and will definitely test your skills.

And why do we actually recommend it to you?

Because drunk Izidor is incredibly tasty. :)

If you add high-quality and tasty nuts to it, you are guaranteed success :) We added a mix of classic nuts to our Izidor, but pecans alone are also very suitable.

Drunk Izidor tastes best the next day, when all the flavors come together and goes very well with black coffee or tea.

And how can you prepare drunk Izidor at home?

What will you need?

  • Corpus:
  • 5 eggs
  • 150g butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 100g ground nuts ( classic nut mix )
  • 50g plain flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons apricot jam
  • Chocolate cream:
  • 3 eggs
  • 200g butter
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • Walnut filling:
  • 300g ground nuts ( classic nut mix )
  • 250ml vodka
  • 250ml rum
  • Chocolate icing:
  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons of milk

How to proceed?

  1. Corpus:
  2. Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Beat the butter and then add the egg yolks, sugar, nuts, flour, baking soda and cocoa. Mix everything together and then fold the beaten egg whites into the batter (do not mix). Pour into a baking tin and bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes. Note: you can use a 20x33cm tin or a 25cm round tin
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the walnut filling. Pour vodka and rum into the ground walnuts and mix well.
  4. Chocolate cream:
  5. Whisk the eggs and sugar over a medium heat until you get a thick white cream.
  6. Let the cream cool and then add the melted cocoa butter and melted and partially cooled chocolate.
  7. Spread apricot jam on the crust and add the walnut filling on top.
  8. Now add the chocolate cream and spread it evenly along the entire length of the body. Place the Izidora in the freezer for a few minutes to allow the cream to set properly.
  9. Chocolate icing:
  10. Melt the dark chocolate over steam, then add the butter and milk. Let the icing cool for a while and then pour it over your Izidor.
  11. Enjoy your meal :)
