Bábovka is quite popular in our country and there are many recipes for it. Some are soft as a pillow and melt in your mouth, while others are a little harder but have a more pronounced flavor.
And that's exactly what our cake is like. Its chocolate flavor will quickly put you in the right mood, and when you pour it with peanut icing, your experience will be even stronger. Pure Hygge moment, but Slovak :)
If you want to know why our cake is different, it's because of the peanut butter we used for the frosting. You could definitely use something else, like almond butter , but that wouldn't bring out the chocolate flavor as much. And for us, taste is always the first priority :)
Unfortunately, or fortunately, you now have no choice but to make this cake at home. :) The process is very simple and even a beginner can do it.

Chocolate cake with peanut frosting.
What will you need?
- 200g butter
- 200g sugar
- 5 eggs
- 220g flour
- 30g potato starch
- 30g cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- 200g of good quality dark chocolate (min. 60% cocoa)
- 100g peanut butter
- 30ml milk
- 250g powdered sugar
- A pinch of salt
How to proceed?
- Chop the dark chocolate. Grease the cake tin with butter and sprinkle with flour.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, potato starch, cocoa and baking powder.
- Separate the egg whites from the yolks.
- Place the butter in a large bowl and add the sugar. Beat with a stand mixer or hand mixer on high speed until you have a soft white cream. Then start adding the egg yolks one at a time, but do not stop mixing. After the last egg yolk, add the milk.
- Add the flour and mix (but now by hand) until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Beat the egg whites and slowly fold them into the batter. Finally, add the dark chocolate and mix gently.
- Pour the batter into the pan and bake at 180°C for about 60 minutes. After the time has passed, check if the cake is cooked using a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready. However, if the batter sticks to it, leave it in the oven for another 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the peanut butter and milk frosting. In a bowl, mix together the peanut butter and milk. Then add the powdered sugar and a pinch of salt and mix well. The final frosting should be a little thicker to cover the cake well. If you are not satisfied with its consistency, feel free to add more powdered sugar or milk.
- After baking, leave the cake in the tin until it cools completely. Then transfer it to a wire rack and pour the icing over it.
- Enjoy your meal :)
