Cashews are among the most popular and best-selling nuts in Slovakia, despite the fact that they cannot be grown locally. Most of the world's cashew production comes from countries such as Vietnam and India, although Nigeria is currently the world's largest producer.
After carefully tasting cashews from several different origins, we chose to source ours from Tanzania and Togo. The reason was simple—quality. We found these African cashews to be noticeably superior in flavour, texture, and overall quality compared with many of those sourced from Vietnam or India. Another important reason for our choice is that we use these premium cashews to produce our range of smooth cashew spreads. High-quality nuts are essential for achieving a naturally creamy texture without adding oils, emulsifiers, or other unnecessary ingredients. Like all of our nuts, the cashews are gently roasted using hot air only, without any added oil, preserving their natural flavour and nutritional value.

Did You Know?
Cashews are unusual because the edible nut grows outside the fruit, attached to the bottom of what is known as the cashew apple. Although commonly called a nut, the edible portion is technically a seed. Each cashew apple produces only one cashew nut. The shell surrounding the seed contains naturally occurring toxic compounds and must be carefully removed before the cashew becomes safe to eat.
Although some products are marketed as raw cashews, commercially available cashews are never truly raw. Before the shell can be removed, the nuts must be heat-treated—typically with steam—to neutralize the caustic substances found in the shell.
The United States is one of the world's largest consumers of cashew nuts, importing a significant share of global production each year.
The oil extracted from cashew nut shells has valuable industrial applications and is commonly used in lubricants, brake linings, paints, coatings, and waterproof materials.
